
Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Manhattan College

RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Kristina Lingo recorded four hits while Breanne Morschauser added three hits and three RBI to lead the Fairfield University softball team to a split with Manhattan College. The Stags won the first game by a 7-3 score, but dropped the second contest by a 4-2 margin.
Fairfield never trailed in the first game, jumping out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Erin Frank lined a one-out double and came home when Meghan Borst drove a two-out single. The Stags took advantage of two Jaspers error that allowed two runs to score, making the score 3-0.
The advantage improved to 4-0 in the fifth frame, a rally which started with Jenna DiBernardo leading off with a double. Kristie Trifiolis sent her to third base with a base hit, before Morschauser ripped an RBI single.
Manhattan finally broke through against Sarah Minice, pushing two runs across home plate off Jaclyn Churilla's double. The Stags answered the Jaspers' rally with three runs in the top of the sixth inning as Morschauser added an RBI single and Frank tacked on a two-run double.
The Jaspers opened the second game with a run in the first inning off starter Kelli Panter. Fairfield tied the game in its half of the second inning when Lingo hit a solo home run. The home team took the lead for good in the third inning courtesy of a two-run double by Lyndzie Phillips. The Stags added one more run when Morschauser lifted an RBI double to score Riannon Thomas.
Fairfield returns to action on Tuesday, April 29 when it hosts Marist College for the continuation of its doubleheader originally played on April 6. Fairfield won the first game but the second contest was suspended after 12 innings and the score tied at 5-5. Game time is slated for 3 pm.
