FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University softball team returns to action this weekend when it travels to South Carolina for the Winthrop-adidas Tournament. The Stags will play four games this weekend, including games against Ohio University, UNC-Wilimington, North Carolina A & T, as well as the host school in the two-day event.
The team returned from its Florida swing with a 3-9 overall record after playing eight games at the Rebel Games in Orlando, and four games at the UA Tournament hosted by South Florida. Freshman Kristina Lingo tallied a team-best .333 batting average among regulars, stroking a double, a triple, and four RBI. Kristie Trifiolis drove home a team-best seven RBI during the week.
Freshmen pitchers Kelli Panter and Sarah Minice accounted for all three wins in the pitching circle with Minice leading the way with a 2-2 record. Panter registered a team-high 37 strikeouts in 40.2 innings pitched.
