
Lingo's Three RBI Lift Softball To 5-2 Win Over Stony Brook

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- Kristina Lingo hit a two-run homer and added a third RBI in the third inning to lift the Fairfield University softball team to a 5-2 win over the University at Stony Brook on Thursday afternoon. The two teams played a single game rather than the scheduled doubleheader.
The Stags jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, a rally which started when Jenna DiBernardo led off the inning with a base hit. Lingo followed with a home run to right field, her second homer of the season.
Fairfield pushed across three more runs in the next inning as the team loaded the bases with one out. Lingo came to the plate and lofted a sacrifice fly to center field, sending home Julia Jacoby with the team's third run. Riannon Thomas came home with the second run of the inning when Breanne Morschauser stroked a base hit to center field, making the score 4-0. Jenna DiBernardo tallied the team's last run after Erin Frank beat out an infield hit to shortstop.
Sony Brook cut into the lead with a pair of runs int he bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run and an unearned which scored on an errant throw to first base. Pitcher Jen Gilbert earned the victory in relief of starter Sarah Minice. Minice went the first three innings before yielding to Gilbert, who tossed two innings and struck out two hitters. Danielle Iovino finished the game with two innings of work, giving up no runs and one hit.
The Stags return to action on Saturday when they host Rider University in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 pm at Alumni Softball Field.
