
Softball Splits Doubleheader With Saint Peter's As Trifiolis Registers Four Hits In Twinbill

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Kristie Trifiolis went four for five with two doubles and a home run as the Fairfield University softball team split a doubleheader with Saint Peter's College in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play. Fairfield won the first game by a 7-1 margin, but dropped the nightcap by a 4-0 count.
The Stags scored in five of seven innings in the opener, starting with a run in the top of the first thanks to Trifiolis' solo homer. Fairfield tacked on a pair of runs in the third frame as it loaded the bases with a double, a hit batter, and an infield single. Erin Frank followed with a base hit through the left side of the infield, sending home a pair of runs to make the score 3-0.
The visitors added two more runs in the fourth inning, beginning with Breanne Morschauser's leadoff home run. Trifiolis chased home the second run of the inning with a double. Meghan Borst pushed the sixth run of the game with a base hit to send home Frank for a 6-0 lead.
Saint Peter's finally lit the scoreboard board with a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, but the Stags answered with an unearned run in the sixth inning. Sarah Minice earned the win by scattering three hits and fanning a career-high 16 hitters.
In the second game, Saint Peter's outhit the Stags by a 7-6 count in a 4-0 victory. The Peahens picked up their key hit in the fifth inning, a two-run homer off reliever Minice. Kelli Panter started the game, but was taken out after walking the lead-off hitter in the fifth inning.
Six different Fairfield players had a hit in the game.
