
Softball Drops Pair Of Games On First Day Of Winthrop Invitational

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Erin Frank tallied four hits while Kristie Trifiolis added three hits as the Stags softball team dropped two games at the Winthrop Invitational. The Stags fell short against the University at Albany (5-3) and versus host Winthrop (6-2).
In the opener, Frank gave the Stags a 1-0 lead with a solo home run. Frank made the score 2-0 with an RBI double in the top of the fourth that regained the lead for Fairfield at 2-1. Albany tallied a single run in the fifth and the sixth innings, giving the team its first lead of the game.
Fairfield rallied to tie the game in the top of the seventh as Frank singled to lead off the inning, and came home after Breanne Morschauser drove an RBI single. Albany won the game with a two-out, two-run walk-off home run by Michelle Connors.
In the second game, Trifiolis posted a pair of singles and scored the team's second run. Winthrop took control of the game early with three runs in the first and two more runs in the second inning. The Stags cut into the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning as Kristine Lingo drove home the first run with an RBI ground out. Jenna DiBernardo stroked an RBI single later in the inning as Trifiolis came around to score the second run.
