SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- Meghan Borst put together her best day in a Stag uniform this afternoon, registering five hits, five RBI and picking up the win in the nightcap as the softball team opened the San Diego State tournament with a win over Miami, Ohio and Iona College. Borst drove home the game-winning runs in both games.

In the opener, Fairfield jumped out to a 4-1 lead against Miami, with Breanne Morshauser providing a two-run double in the fifth inning. The Redhawks came back to tie the game with four runs in the bottom of the sixth frame, using an RBI single, an RBI groundout, and a two-run triple to take the lead for the first time.

The Stags responded with a pair of runs in the top of the seventh inning to regain the lead. Jenna DiBernardo stroked a pinch-hit double to tie the game at 5-5, and later came home with the winning run following Borst's run-scoring single. Pitcher Cagney Ringnalda earned the win, yielding 14 hits in the game while fanning two batters.

Roles were reversed in the second game as the Stags handed Iona College its first loss of the season with a five-run come-from-behind rally to win by a 6-5 count. The Stags won the game with a single run in the bottom of the seventh as Borst lined a base hit to score Jessica Stand with one out. Borst also pitched the final four innings of the game to earn the victory from the pitching circle.

After spotting the Gaels a 5-1 lead, the Stags tallied three runs in the fifth inning and a single run in the sixth and seventh innings to finish the comeback victory. Borst started the rally with a three-run double in the fifth.
