SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Fairfield University softball team finished up its West Coast trip with a 10-0 loss to the University of Utah at the Aztec Classic hosted by San Diego State University. The Stags finished the tournament with a 2-3 record.
Fairfield managed just two hits in the game, as Julia Jacoby stroked a base hit in the first inning and Erin Frank added a single in the fourth frame. The Stags had their best scoring chance in the first inning when Jacoby reached first base with a one-out base hit. Frank earned a walk to put runners on first and second with one out. Cagney Ringnalda grounded into a fielder's choice to put runners on first and third with two outs, but the Stags could not manage to score the run before making the third out.
Utah opened the scoring with two runs in the third inning with a two-run triple. The Utes enjoyed three multi-run innings over a four-inning span that allowed the team to post the win.
Fairfield returns to action on Thursday against Wagner College at Alumni Softball Diamond, a date which also marks the team's home opener.
