NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- Cagney Ringnalda hit a three-run homer in the first inning and tossed a complete-game victory in the opening game of a doubleheader, allowing the softball team to earn a split with Yale University. The victory ended Yale's seven-game win streak, while the eight runs were the most scored against the Bulldogs this season.

The Stags jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning when Kristie Trifiolis wallked and went to second after Dani Griswold singled. With one out, Ringnalda launched a three-run home run over the left field fence. Fairfield doubled up its advantage in the second inning when Allie Ritacco and Trifiolis reached on an error. Griswold followed up with a three-run home run to make the score 6-0.

Yale cut into the lead with five straight runs, including three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning off four hits. With the score 6-5, Fairfield added a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning when Kristen D'Alessandro and Trifiolis hit back-to-back home runs to run the advantage to three runs. Ringnalda allowed just one hit in the seventh before ending the game with a pop out to shortstop.

The Bulldogs used a fast start in the second game, hitting a pair of home runs to gain a 4-0 lead after the first inning. Fairfield cut into that lead with a run in the fourth inning after Breanne Morschauser drilled an RBI double that scored Ringnalda. Yale regained its four-run advantage with a single run in the sixth inning. Fairfield made a threat in the top of the seventh inning when Trifiolis doubled and came home on Erin Frank's double, but the rally ended on a ground out to second base.

Fairfield returns to action when it hosts a pair of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) doubleheaders over the weekend. The Stags host Niagara University on March 31 and Canisius College on April 1.
