FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Kate Roberts and Cagney Ringnalda combined for a three-hit shutout in the second game of a doubleheader against Yale University, as the Stags came back with a 2-0 win in the nightcap to split with the Bulldogs. Yale won the opener by a 3-0 score behind a strong pitching effort by Peggy Hunt.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring for the day with a single run in the top of the third when Courtney Blachford singled with one out. She advanced to second on a wild pitch, and came home after Aracelis Torres laced a double to left field to push Yale in front by a 1-0 score. The visitors added two more runs in the fifth frame, taking advantage of two Fairfield errors to score two unearned runs.

Blachford reached first base after getting hit by a pitch by starter Tracy Sylvestre. She came home after Torres' fly ball was mishandled in right field, allowing Blachford to come home. Torres crossed home plate one batter later after Meredith Parks singled.

Five different Stags had a base hit in the game, led by Julia Jacoby, Tara Hansen, Riannon Thomas, Breanne Morschauser, and Kristen D'Alessandro.

In the second game, Fairfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Shannon Logan started the two-out rally by earning a walk. She went to second on Morschauser's single, and came home when Jenna DiBernardo stroked a single down the right field line. Fairfield added an insurance run in the sixth inning.

Erin Frank reached first base on an error by the shortstop. Lisa Meringer entered the game as a pinch runner for Frank, and promptly stole second base. Meringer tallied the team's second run after Thomas ripped a double over the center fielder's head.

Roberts pitched five-plus inning and scattered three hits before yielding to Ringnalda. Ringnalda did not allow a hit in her two innings of relief, her second relief stint of the day. She struck out five batters and surrendered one hit in three innings of work in the first game.

Fairfield returns to action on April 8 when it opens the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) season by heading south for a doubleheader against Saint Peter's College.
