JERSEY CITY, N.J. -- Tara Hansen hit a three-run homer and tossed a complete game in the second game of a doubleheader against Saint Peter's College this afternoon, completing a split with the Peahens with a 4-2 victory. The home team won the first game of the twinbill with a 5-1 decision.
Hansen dominated the second game with her pitching and hitting skills. The senior scattered seven hits in seven innings, and fanned three batters to earn her fourth win of the season. The Stags jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Erin Frank walked to lead off the inning. She took second base on a ground out, and came home after Shannon Logan stroked an RBI double.
Fairfield took complete control with a three-run fifth inning. Jenna DiBernardo drew a one-out walk, and went to second after Julia Jacoby sacrificed her to second base. Riannon Thomas sent DiBernardo to third with a base hit, setting up Hansen's three-run shot with two outs. Saint Peter's cut the lead in the half with two runs in the sixth frame, one of which was unearned. Meg Papiernak did the damage with a two-run double.
Saint Peter's won the opener by a 5-1 score as Papiernak went two for four with three RBI which included a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Amber Phillips yielded just five hits in picking up her third win of the season. Frank reached base in all three plate appearances for Fairfield, stroking two hits and earning a walk. Riannon Thomas posted the Stags' only extra base hit with a double in the first inning.
