POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University softball team posted an early lead in both ends of a doubleheader, but could not hold those advantages as Marist College came from behind in the two games for a sweep of the Stags.

In the first game, Fairfield scored a pair of runs in the top of the third inning to break a scoreless tie. Allie Ritacco led off the inning with a walk, and yielded to pinch runner Jessica Stand. Stand was sacrificed to second base, and later came home when Kristie Trifiolis hit a two-run homer to left field.

Marist wasted little time in taking the lead, as the Red Foxes sent home four runs in the bottom of the third inning. Cagney Ringnalda retired the first two hitters, but surrendered six straight hits that led to a 4-2 Marist lead. The Red Foxes tallied two more runs in the fifth inning off a two-run home run.

The second game also spotted the Stags an early lead, as Fairfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning. Erin Frank led off the inning with walk and took second on Riannon Thomas' infield single to the left side. With two outs, Breanne Morschauser hit a pitch to left center field for a single and an RBI.

Once again, Marist answered the Stags lead with a four-run bottom half of the inning, the key blow coming off a three-run homer. The Stags plated a single run in both the sixth and seventh innings. In the sixth, Meghan Borst drove home a run with an infield single. One inning later, Trifiolis scored on a wild pitch.

The Stags were scheduled to return to action on Sunday, April 15 at Siena College, but the games have been postponed due to poor weather reports throughout the day. A make-up date has not been scheduled.
