NEW YORK, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University softball team halted a four-game skid with a road sweep of Columbia University, posting a pair of 3-2 wins. Erin Frank had a key hit in the opening game, while Meghan Borst added a base hit that helped decide the nightcap.

In the opener, the Lions opened up the scoring with a single run in the second inning, but the Stags tied it up with a run in the bottom of the inning. Riannon Thomas sent home the tying run with a double, which chased home Borst.

After Columbia pushed a run home in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead, the Stags grabbed their first lead with a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Kristen D'Alessandro opened the frame with a base hit, and later scored on Frank's home run. Pitcher Cagney Ringnalda made the lead last by scattering four hits and fanning eight batters for a complete-game winl

The Lions also took an early lead with a single run in the fourth inning, but the lead was short lived. Julia Jacoby doubled and went to third on Frank's single. Frank took second on the throw to third base, putting two runners in scoring position. Borst followed up with a base hit to score both runners, making the score 2-1.

Breanne Morschauser scored Fairfield's third run when she reached on an error. The infielder came around to score when Kristie Trifiolis hit a fielder's choice to give the Stags a 3-1 lead. A solo home run brought Columbia within a run in the sixth inning, However, Jen Gilbert and Cagney Ringnalda combined to get the final three outs, securing the sweep. Gilbert earned her first collegiate win by tossing 6.2 innings before yielding to Ringnalda who earned the save.
