LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- Senior Erin Frank registered five hits and three RBI over two games, as the Stags softball team split a pair of road games against Rider University on Saturday. Fairfield won the opening game by a 10-0 count in five innings, but fell in the second contest as Rider scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Eight different Fairfield players recorded at least one RBI in the first game. Julia Jacoby and Frank each stroked a pair of hits, while Jessica Stand tallied a pair of RBI. The Stags enjoyed two big innings in the game, beginning with a six-run second inning.
Riannon Thomas started the rally with an RBI double that sent home Cagney Ringnalda, who led the inning off with a walk. Thomas later scored when she came home on the front end of a double steal. Kristen D'Alessandro and Kristie Trifiolis each knocked home a run with a double. Frank sent home the final run with a single to right field.
Fairfield added four more runs in the fourth frame, as the team pounded out five hits. Jacoby opened the inning with a base hit, and came around to score after Ringnalda laced a single to center field. Meghan Borst, Breanne Morschauser, and Stand tallied an RBI later in the inning to close out the scoring.
Rider jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second game with a run in the third inning, but saw that lead erased following a three-run fifth inning for the Stags. Morschauser opened the frame with an infield hit. She moved to second and third on a couple of ground outs, setting the stage for Jacoby's RBI single. Trifiolis recorded an infield single, placing two runners on the base paths. Frank drove a double to center field which scored both base runners to make the score 3-1.
The Broncs tied the game with a two-run rally in the sixth inning, as two Fairfield errors set up the runs. Fairfield had a chance to take the lead in the seventh inning after Jacoby led off the inning with a double. Trifiolis bunted Jacoby to third base for the first out. A strike out and a ground out ended Fairfield's chances, opening up an opportunity for the home team.
Rider won the game in the bottom of the seventh with three base hits, the last of which came with one out.
