Game One Box Score Game Two Box Score
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. - The Fairfield University softball team dropped a pair of games to Siena College on the road, falling 4-2 in the first game and 11-10 in the nightcap. The Stags nearly erased a 10-run deficit in the second game, but fell short by a run.
Siena jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first game, taking advantage of a pair of lead off singles. After a passed ball moved the runners to second and third, Rachelle Morales chased both runners home with a double to left field. The Stags cut that lead in half when Breanne Morschauser came home off Julia Jacoby's ground out to second base.
The Saints responded with another two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, courtesy of an RBI single from Jennifer Granato and Kelly Boyle that made the score 4-1. Fairfield rallied in the top of the seventh, which started with Riannon Thomas reaching on an error. The junior eventually scored off Jacoby's RBI fielder's choice. The Stags could not manage another hit the rest of the inning, resulting in a 4-2 decision.
In the second game, the Saints jumped out to an early lead once again when Stacey Landini hit a three-run homer over the center field fence. Siena pushed the lead to 5-0 when Jennifer Granato hit the ball over the left field wall to score two more runs. Fairfield broke up the shutout after Cagney Ringnalda hit a solo homer to make the score 5-1.
Siena took command of the game with six runs in the bottom of the fourth frame, starting with Easton Henrikson's solo home run. Grantao hit her second home run of the game, a three-run shot that helped the home team make the score 11-1. Fairfield mounted a valiant come back in this game, beginning with four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Erin Frank had the big hit in the inning with a two-run double.
The Stags closed the game further when Kristie Trifiolis hit a three-run homer that made the score 11-8. Fairfield made things even more interesting when Ringnalda and Frank led off the seventh inning with back-to-back home runs, making the score 11-10. However, Fairfield did not record another base runner the rest of the way.
