First Game Box Score      Second Game Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Riannon Thomas' two-run home run was the difference in the softball team's 2-1 win over Saint Peter's College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) game, helping the Stags earn a split of the doubleheader. The Peahens won the opener by a 3-1 count, using a three-run homer to earn the victory.

Both pitchers started the second game perfectly, as Saint Peter's Jessica LaBovick and Fairfield's Meghan Borst each retired the first six hitters they faced. The Peahens finally put a base runner on the paths with a single by Chrissy Gannon.

The Stags broke through in the fourth frame when Julia Jacoby led off the inning with a single to right field. After a fly out, Thomas stepped to the plate and deposited a pitch over the left-center field fence to put the home team in front, 2-0.

Saint Peter's threatened in the sixth inning after Ariana Payan reached on an error. With two outs, Kristen Kinnear laced a single to put runners on first and second. Gannon followed with a double off the center field fence, but a relay throw from Jacoby to Kristie Trifiolis to catcher Erin Frank ended the inning as Kinnear was thrown out at the plate. Borst retired the final three hitters to earn the complete-game win.

In the opener, Julie Saporito hit a three-run homer in the first inning, which was all the offense that pitcher Amber Phillips would need as the Peahens posted a 3-1 win. Fairfield scored its only run of the game in the fifth inning when Kristen D'Alessandro doubled to right center, and scored on Jacoby's single up the middle.

Fairfield returns to action on Sunday when it travels to the University of Rhode Island for a pair of games. First pitch is slated for 1 pm.
