Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Julia Jacoby and Tara Hansen each had three hits in a doubleheader against Rider University, but the Broncs used a pair of home runs to propel themselves to a sweep of the Stags in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) twin bill.

In the opener, Fairfield jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning as Jacoby opened the game for the Stags with a triple. She came home two batters later off Hansen's RBI single over the shortstop's head. The Broncs scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth inning, with Jamie Farley's three-run home run highlighting the rally. The Stags scored one more run in the bottom of the third after Riannon Thomas was hit by a pitch, was sacrificed to second, and scored off Hansen's RBI single.

The second game did not start well for the Stags, as Rider drew five walks in the top of the first inning to score two runs without the benefit of a base hit. The visitors tacked on five runs in the top of the third inning, with Tiffany Day-Neutill presenting most of the offense with a three-run double.

The Stags broke through in the bottom of the third inning, as Jacoby started the inning with a walk. She eventually came home after Erin Frank's single was misplayed and allowed Jacoby to score the team's only run. Rider finished off the scoring in the top of the fifth inning, courtesy of Nichole Mears two-run homer.

Fairfield finishes up the regular-season with a doubleheader against Siena College on Sunday, May 7.
