FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Meghan Borst (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) collected the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Rookie of the Week award after batting .429 and earning a save over three games last week. The Stags posted a 1-2 record at the Stony Brook Invitational over that three-game stretch.

Borst recorded a hit in two of the three games, stroking three hits in seven at-bats. She registered her second home run of the season against Quinnipiac University, a two-run shot in the 12-6 loss to the Bobcats. She also scratched out a hit in a 5-3 win against host Stony Brook. Later in that game, the freshman pitched 2.2 innings to earn the save. She owned a 2.79 ERA over nine-plus innings of work last week.

The pitcher/utility player received a spot on the Stony Brook Invitational All-Tournament team, joining junior Julia Jacoby for that honor.

For the season, Borst places third among regulars with a .290 batting average, with three of her nine hits this year going for extra bases. She is the team's co-leader with nine RBI, an honor she shares with senior Cagney Ringnalda. She owns a 1-1 record in seven appearances, tossing 22 innings with 13 strikeouts.

The Fairfield University softball team, under Head Coach Julie Brzezinski, owns a 4-12 overall record. The Stags play a non-conference doubleheader at Yale University on March 28 before opening up MAAC play by hosting Niagara on March 31 at noon and Canisius on April 1 at 11 am.
