FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Sophomore Erin Frank (Scottsdale, Ariz.) earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Player of the Week award for the second time this season, as she led the Stags to a 3-2-1 week which included a sweep of Iona College in conference play.
She split time between catcher and third base during the week, and started all six games. She hit a home run in the final three games of the week, including both ends of the Iona doubleheader. Frank enters this week's action with eight home runs, just one off the school single season record which she set last season.
Frank had a hit in all six games last week, including two hits against Saint Peter's and Iona. She also recorded five walks during the week which allowed her to reach base 13 times in 24 plate appearances (.542 on-base percentage). She owned a .421 batting average in the six games.
Frank is already the school's all-time leader with 17 home runs, seven more than the previous record hold of 10 set by Linda Mazella from 1988-91. Her six RBI last week raised her season total to 30, which is also closing on her own record of 41 established a year ago.
Fairfield University, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, owns a 24-17-1 overall record and a 3-3 mark in MAAC play. The team takes to the road for two doubleheaders and one home date this week, beginning with a twinbill at the University of Hartford on April 19. The Stags return to MAAC play with two games at Manhattan College on April 22, before hosting Rider University on April 23 at noon.
