FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Jen Gilbert (Dighton, Mass.) earned the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) softball rookie of the week after helping the Stags post a 5-1 record last week. The pitcher posted a 2-0 record in four appearances, including her first collegiate shutout.

The freshman nearly pitched a complete game in her outing of the week, tossing six-plus innings to defeat Columbia University by a 3-2 count. She scattered 10 hits and fanned two batters in recording the victory. She followed up with a pair of scoreless relief efforts against conference foe Rider University, tossing 2.1 innings and surrendering just two hits.

Her best game of the week came against Georgetown University, a 5-0 win which completed a sweep. Gilbert tossed a four hitter and fanned a personal-best six strikeouts in seven innings of work against the Hoyas. For the week, Gilbert owned a 0.88 ERA with just two earned runs allowed in 16 innings in the pitching circle.

The Stags improved to 14-19 overall following their five-win week. The team returns to action on April 25 when it hosts St. John's University for one game. First pitch is slated for 4 pm.
