FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Julia Jacoby (San Diego, Calif.) and Meghan Borst (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) earned weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for their performance over a seven-game stretch last week, as the Fairfield University softball team posted a 4-3 record. Jacoby was named the Player of the Week, while Borst was selected the Rookie of the Week.
Jacoby raised her batting average to over .400 after stroking 14 hits in 28 at-bats during the seven-game run. The junior posted 12 RBI during the week, including five in a doubleheader sweep of Rhode Island. She tallied seven hits in that twinbill, including four in one end of the doubleheader. Jacoby had at least one hit in all seven games.
Borst performed well both in the batter's box and the pitching circle. The freshman posted a 2-0 record and a save in six appearances, thanks in part to a 2.42 ERA. She tossed five scoreless innings in relief against St. John's, a game which the Stags recorded a 12-5 victory. She earned a complete-game win against Saint Peter's, and earned a save against Rhode Island. As a hitter, Borst batted .318 with a solo home run.
The Fairfield University softball team, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, owns an 18-22 overall record with a 5-7 MAAC mark.
