FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Five Fairfield University softball players earned honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) as the organization released its annual post-season honors. Outfielder Julia Jacoby was the Stags All-MAAC first team representative, while catcher Erin Frank and utility Meghan Borst collected second team accolades.
Jacoby finished the season with a team-best .415 batting average, leading all Stags with 59 hits in 42 games. Jacoby led her teammates in several offensive categories including doubles (11), triples (6), and RBI (26). After fanning just seven times last season, Jacoby struck out just seven times this year and finished ranked among the Division I leaders for toughest to strike out for the second straight season. Jacoby also placed 22nd in Division I with her batting average.
Frank placed second on the team with a .325 batting average, registering nine doubles, two triples and four home runs. The junior posted a .464 on-base percentage thanks in part to her team-leading 28 walks. Frank tallied a .533 slugging percentage, joining Jacoby (.599) as the only Stags with a .500-plus percentage.
Borst contributed both as a pitcher and as a hitter during her freshman campaign. In the batter's box, Borst owned a .283 batting average with five home runs and 25 RBI in 106 plate appearances. As a pitcher, Borst tallied a 5-5 record with a 3.92 ERA in 24 appearances. She led all Fairfield pitchers with three saves.
Frank, Caitlyn Bell, and Kristen D'Alessandro were honored for their success in the classroom, as the trio received MAAC All-Academic recognition. Frank and D'Alessandro earned the designation for the second time, while Bell made her debut on the squad.
The Fairfield University softball team, under head coach Julie Brzezinski, finished the 2007 season with a 20-24 overall record and a 7-9 MAAC mark.
