Women's Tennis Ties for Fifth Place at MAAC Championships

FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team tied for fifth place at the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The sixth-seeded Stags were battling against fifth-seeded Manhattan when the match was called at a 1-1 tie.

Fairfield's lone point of the day came after the Stags captured the doubles point. At the top spot,the freshman tandem of Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) defeated Jennifer Fowler and Morgan MacTaggert, 8-6. At No. 3 doubles, Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Gabriela Davila (Guaybano, Puerto Rico) pushed past Lindsey Spagnola and Malory Nguyen, 8-1.

At No. 2 doubles, senior Alexis Accomando (Lilitz, Pa.) and Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) fell to Lindsey Keeler and Casey Conklin, 9-7.

Manhattan's point came at No. 1 singles as Rys fell to Fowler, 6-1, 6-1.

The Stags had three student-athletes named to the All-Academic Team in Bonanno, junior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) and sophomore Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.).

Fairfield concludes the season with a 9-12-1 record.
