WEST POINT, N.Y. -  Sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) had a big day for the Fairfield women's tennis team as she advanced to the quarterfinals of her respective flight during the first day of play at the Wilson/ITA Eastern Intercollegiate Championships.

Playing in the Second Doubles bracket, Postupack opened the day by defeating Rhode Island's Grace Hedstrom, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7. Postupack then knocked off eighth-seeded Kaitlen Carpenter of UMass by a score of 6-2, 6-0. Postupack will face Marist's Erin Godly in the quarterfinals tomorrow.

In First Singles action, sophomore Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) fell to Buffalo's Denise Harijanto, 6-0, 6-0, in the opening round. Rys then fell to top-seeded Stacey Percival of West Virginia, 8-1, in the consolation round.

Junior Gabriela Davila (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) fell to Quinnipiac's Lisanne Steinert, 6-1, 4-6, 10-3 in the opening round of Third Singles. In the consolation round, Davila was topped by fifth-seeded Diana Alquero of Army, 8-2.

Senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) fought hard in her opening round match-up against Fairleigh Dickinson's Sarah Delliere at Fourth Singles, but was edged 7-5, 6-4. In the consolation round, Colgate's Cameron Williams came away with the 8-0 victory over Price.

In doubles action, the duo of Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) and freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) was victorious in their opening round match at Second Doubles. Cerrone and Ruiz edged out Providence's Kim Betzner and Elizabeth Gills, 8-6. In the round of 16, Cerrone and Ruiz were unable to overtake Duquesne's Alex Albano and Lanna Buhler, falling, 8-4.

More than 30 schools are represented at this year's tournament. Since 1999, Army has served as the host for the event, which has grown into one of the largest collegiate women's tennis tournaments in the Northeast.
