
Fairfield Concludes Action at Hofstra Invitational

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. - The women's tennis team wrapped up action at the 2007 Hofstra Invitational on Sunday as Fairfield earned a pair of doubles victories.
Sophomores Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) and Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) earned an 8-4 victory against Ivana Tomaic and Camila Noldin of Radford at No. 1 doubles. The duo of sophomores Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) and Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) also picked up a win with an 8-6 decision over Radford's Cassandra Price and Mirna Matic at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Stags matched up against Amherst College. Rys fell to Alicia Menezes, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 singles while Postupack was edged by Laken King, 6-3, 6-5, at No. 2 singles. At the third spot, freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) fell to Brittany Berckes, 6-1, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Natasha Brown outlasted Cerrone, 7-6(5), 6-2.
At No. 6 singles, senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) fell to Jennifer Murphy, 6-2, 6-1. Courtney Taylor (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was defeated by Jill Wexler at No. 7 singles while Amberg fell to Laura Stein, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 8 singles.
At No. 2 doubles, junior Gabriela Davila (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) and Ruiz fell to Radford's Paige Lindsley and Ashton Downs, 8-3. At No. 4 doubles, Price and Taylor were edged 8-3 by Radford's Antonietta Iosue and Ally Spector.
Fairfield is back in action Oct. 13-14 when its co-hosts the New England Championships with Sacred Heart University.
