
Stags Record Second Place Finish at New England Championships

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) captured her singles flight and picked up a doubles title to help the Fairfield women's tennis team to a second-place finish at the New England Championships this afternoon.
Postupack, the top-seed in Flight Two singles, edged out Rhode Island's Grace Hedstrom, 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 for the victory. Postupack also teamed with classmate Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) to capture Flight One doubles. The Fairfield tandem defeated Rhode Island's Hedstrom and Nyssa Peele in the finals.
Rys had a successful singles performance as she was the runner-up in Flight One after falling to Peele, 6-1, 7-5.
In Flight Three, the second-seeded Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) was the runner-up in the flight as she was edged out by Rhode Island's Amanda Barletta, 6-3, 1-6, 6-1.
In Flight Six, Gretchen Amberg (Bay Shore, N.Y.) placed third with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Providence's Kim Betzner.
Senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) was victorious in the fifth-place match of Flight Five as she beat out Paige Brown of Holy Cross, 6-2, 6-1. In Flight Four, freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) placed sixth after falling to Hailee Lange of Holy Cross, 6-3, 6-1, in the back draw.
Cerrone and Ruiz were the runners-up in Flight Two doubles after falling to Rhode Island's Barletta and Stefani Cattanzano by a margin of 8-1. In Flight Three doubles, the duo of Amberg and Price took third place with a 8-0 victory against Merrimack's Dufour and Lydon.
Rhode Island was the overall winner with 77 points while Fairfield tallied 58 points. Sacred Heart, the tournament co-host, placed third with 48 points. Providence had 47 points and was followed by Stonehill (30), Holy Cross (28), Merrimack (25), and Hartford (20).
Fairfield is back in action Oct. 26-27 when they travel to the Louisiana-Lafayette Tournament.
