
Stags Wrap Up Play at Pepsi Challenge

LAFAYETTE, La. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team wrapped up action at the Louisiana-Lafayette Pepsi Challenge this afternoon. Sophomore Gretchen Amberg and freshman Alyssa Ruiz fell in the semifinals of their respective flights.
In Blue Singles, Amberg fell to Texas A&M Corpus Christie's Aleck Valarezo by a score of 6-1, 6-2. In Gray Singles, Ruiz put forth a tough effort against McNeese State's Inga Efimenko but was outlasted, 6-4, 2-6, 7-6(8).
In the consolation of Gray Singles, Courtney Taylor fell to Megan Phinny of Southern Arkansas, 6-2, 6-1.
Senior Courtney Price fell to Sino Ndlabhu of Grambling State, 6-3, 6-0, in the consolation of Blue Singles.
In Red Doubles, Dana Postupack and Paulina Rys split consolation matches. The Fairfield pair defeated Williams and Ndlabhu of Grambling before falling to Devoraj and Guzman of Alcorn, 8-6. Cerrone and Amberg also fell in the consolation round with an 8-2 loss to Iriate and Dyckman of Texas A&M Corpus Christie.
In White Doubles, Davila and Ruiz fell to Jongeneel and Gudelj of McNeese while Price and Taylor fell to Ruiz de Gauna and Gordon of Louisiana-Lafayette.
Fairfield has concluded its fall season and will resume action in January.
