Women's Tennis Blanks Hartford 7-0

GLASTONBURY, Conn. - The Fairfield women's tennis team opened its spring campaign with a 7-0 victory against Hartford at the Glastonbury Country Club on Saturday morning.

Fairfield took all six singles matches on the day. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) defeated Raquel Casino, 6-1, 6-0, while classmate Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) earned the 6-2, 6-1 victory against Kasey Michels. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) edged out Nicole Haynal, 6-3, 6-3.

Freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) earned her first collegiate dual win at No. 4 singles with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory against Hali Dorfman. At the fifth spot, senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) blanked Jess Ruggles, 6-0, 6-0. Fairfield wrapped up singles play with a win by walkover at the sixth spot.

In doubles action, Cerrone teamed up with junior Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.) to defeat Casino and Michels, 8-5, at the top spot. For Voloshin, the win was her first dual victory in a Stags uniform and her first appearance in the line-up since suffering an injury last season.

Hartford's only win came at No. 2 doubles as Haynal and Dorfman beat out sophomore Courtney Taylor (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and newcomer Caitlin Savoy (Winchester, Mass.), 8-4. The Stags secured the doubles point at the third spot winning by walkover.

Fairfield returns to the courts on February 2 when it travels to the University at Albany.
