Women's Tennis Falls to Albany 7-0

ALBANY, N.Y. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team fell to a tough non-conference opponent this afternoon as the Stags dropped a 7-0 decision to the University at Albany.

At No. 1 singles, sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) was nipped by Aimee Kern, 6-1, 6-4, while classmate Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) fell to Susan Ma, 6-0, 6-3 at the second spot. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) was  unable to overtake Kim Weltman falling by a score of 6-1, 6-0.

At the fourth spot, freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) battled it out with Albany's Charlotte Tatler but was unable to outlast her falling 6-3, 6-4. At No. 5 singles, sophomore Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) fell to McKenzie Mackey, 6-0, 6-0 while senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) fell by the same margin to Amanda Hall.

The Great Danes also swept the doubles competition. At No. 1 doubles, Kern and Ma defeated Postupack and Rys, 8-4. Hall and Mackey overtook Cerrone and Amberg, 8-1, at No. 2 doubles while Tatler and Weltman defeated the duo of Ruiz and Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) by a score of 8-3.

Fairfield returns to the courts on February 8 when it hosts Sacred Heart at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Club. The match is slated to begin at 7:30pm.
