
Women's Tennis Topped By Fairleigh Dickinson 6-1
Feb 24, 2008STAMFORD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team fell to Fairleigh Dickinson, 6-1, this evening at the Stamford Indoor Tennis Club.
Sophomore Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) recorded the Stags' lone point with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory against FDU's (4-3) Jessica DeCarlos at No. 3 singles.
Also forging a win was the doubles duo of Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.) and Gabriela Davila (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), which picked up the 8-6 victory against Sarah Delliere and Jinny DeCarlos at No. 3 doubles.
Overall the doubles competition was tough with three very close matches. Rys and Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) fell to Christina Martine and Julija Korshunova, 8-5, while sophomore Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) and freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) were nipped by Ksenia Chernyshova and Jessica DeCarlos, 8-6.
At No. 1 singles, Korshunova defeated Ruiz, 6-4, 6-3, while Chernyshova defeated Postupack, 6-4, 7-5, at the second singles. At No. 4 singles, Cerrone lost to Dzana Ferhatbegovic, 6-3, 6-1, while sophomore Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) fell by the same margin to Delliere at No. 5 singles. At the sixth spot, senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) was edged by Jinny DeCarlos, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.
Fairfield (1-3) will head to Fort Myers, Fla. next week for its annual Spring Break trip. The Stags will face Florida Gulf Coast on March 3 and Villanova on March 4.
