Women's Tennis Tops Providence 6-1

, R.I. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team snapped a five-match skid with a 6-1 victory at Providence this afternoon. With the win, the Stags improve to 2-5 on the season while the Friars drop to 6-8.

Fairfield took five out of six singles matches on the day. At No. 1 singles, sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win against Avery Gibson to capture her tenth singles match of the year. She leads the team with a 10-8 singles record and a 10-9 mark in doubles play for a combined record of 20-17 this season.

At No. 2 singles, sophomore Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) won her fifth-straight match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory against Ashley Rissolo. At No. 3 singles, freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) edged out Dara Hawkins-Hodgson, 6-4, 6-4.

Sophomore Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) notched a 6-4, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles while Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) earned the 6-1, 6-0 win against Kate Lyons at the fifth spot in her first singles match of the spring.

Fairfield took the doubles point by winning two out of three matches. At the top spot, Postupack and Rys won their tenth match together with an 8-1 win against Gibson and Hawkins-Hodgson. At No. 3 doubles, Ruiz and Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.) teamed up for the 8-4 win against Risolo and Ayushi Sinha.

Senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) fell at No. 6 singles to Sinha, 6-1, 6-1. Sophomore Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) and Cerrone fell to Gilroy and Cusack, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.

Fairfield returns to action on March 27 when it hosts Fordham.
