Women's Tennis Downs Siena 5-2

LATHAM, N.Y.  - Fairfield won its second straight match with a 5-2 victory against Siena on Saturday night to open MAAC play. With the win, the Stags moved to 3-5 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while Siena falls to 2-9 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Sophomore Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) won her fifth straight match at No. 2 singles with an impressive 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 victory against Karina Davis.

At No. 3 singles, freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) defeated Lauren Moy, 6-4, 6-3. In just her second dual match of the season, Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) won her second-straight singles match with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Lauren Garbade at the fifth spot. At No. 6 singles, senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) defeated Dinka Keric, 6-4, 7-5.

Siena took two singles matches on the night, as Sarah Mayer defeated sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.), 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 singles while Jessica Asselin edged sophomore Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.), 6-4, 7-6(6), at No. 4 singles.

Fairfield took two out of the three doubles matches. At No. 2 doubles, Cerrone and sophomore Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) defeated Asselin and Davis, 8-4. At third doubles, Ruiz and Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.) downed Keric and Garbade, 8-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Mayer and Moy defeated Postupack and Rys, 8-4.
