Women's Tennis Topped By Hofstra 6-1

FAIRFIELD, Conn.  - The Fairfield University women's tennis team fell to a very strong Hofstra squad, 6-1, on Sunday morning in a non-conference match at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.

The Pride (6-7) took all but one match on the day. Fairfield's win came at No. 6 singles as senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) earned the victory against Kristina Middlemiss, 5-0, ret.

At No. 1 singles, sophomore Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) fell to Christie Gattelaro, 6-0, 7-5. Sophomore Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) was topped by Lauren Clifton, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2 singles while freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) fell to Stacey Kent, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles.

Sophomore Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) fell to Morganne Downing, 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. At the fifth spot, Valerie McDonald stopped sophomore Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.), 7-6(4), 6-1.

In doubles action, Postupack and Rys fell to Clifton and Zoe Taylor, 8-4 at the top spot. Kent and Gattelaro defeated Amberg and Cerrone, 8-0, at No. 2 doubles while McDonald and Downing edged Ruiz and Price, 8-4, at No. 3 doubles.

Fairfield (3-6) returns to MAAC play on April 1 when it travels to Marist. The Stags return home on April 3 to host Rhode Island at 3 p.m. at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
