
Women's Tennis Snaps Skid With 7-0 Win Against Manhattan

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team blanked Manhattan College, 7-0, this afternoon in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) battle at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The Stags (4-11, 2-2 MAAC) did not drop a single match to the Jaspers (2-11, 1-5 MAAC).
The Stags started things off with a clean sweep of the doubles competition. The sophomore tandem of Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) and Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) edged Lindsey Keeler and Casey Conklin, 8-5, at the top spot. At No. 2 doubles, sophomores Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) and Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) blanked Nicole Mazza and Jaclyn Dinielli, 8-0. Freshman Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) teamed with Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.) to shutout Morgan MacTaggart and Lindsey Spagnola, 8-0.
Fairfield continued to roll in doubles. Amberg made quick work of Mazza with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles. At No. 6 singles, senior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) defeated Dinielli, 6-0, 6-1. At No. 2 singles, Ruiz topped Conklin, 6-3, 6-0. Junior Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Spagnola, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
Two matches went to super tiebreakers. Postupack held out for the 6-2, 6-7(3), 10-5 win against Keeler at No. 1 singles while Cerrone pulled out the 4-6, 7-6(6), 10-2 victory against MacTaggart.
Fairfield will play out the rest of the regular season at home. The Stags host Loyola on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m. and Rider on April 13 at noon. Prior to the start of the match against the Broncs, Fairfield will honor its graduating senior. The Stags final match of the regular season is on April 15 against Saint Peter's. The 2008 MAAC Tennis Championships will be held April 15-18 at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
