
Women's Tennis Defeats Rider 7-0

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team won each match it played, singles and doubles, to defeat Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Rider University 7-0 on Senior Day. The Stags improve to 6-11 overall and 4-2 against MAAC foes.
With the chance of rain the singles matches were played first and the Stags won each match in straight sets. Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) earned the win at first singles, defeating Krissy Paich 6-1, 6-1. Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.), at second singles, and Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.), at fourth singles, both won their matches 6-0, 6-0. Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at third singles, while Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) won at sixth singles by the same score. Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) earned the Stags a point at number five singles, with a 6-2, 6-0 victory.
Fairfield won all three of the doubles matches as well, paced by an 8-4 win at number one doubles from Amberg and Postupack. Cerrone and Price won at number two doubles, 8-1, while Courtney Taylor (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Caitlin Savoy (Winchester, Mass.) paired up for an 8-4 win at number three doubles.
Fairfield plays its final match of the regular season is on April 15 against Saint Peter's at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The 2008 MAAC Tennis Championships will be held April 18-20 at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
