
Women's Tennis Downs St. Peter's 7-0 For Fourth Straight Win

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season with a 7-0 victory against Saint Peter's this afternoon as the Stags captured their fourth straight match. Fairfield finishes the regular season with a 5-2 mark in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) and a 7-11 overall record.
The Stags took all nine matches on the day from the Peahens (8-13, 3-3 MAAC) starting with a sweep of the doubles competition. Marisa Voloshin and Alyssa Ruiz got things started with an 8-3 win against Kristy Bonner and Kristen Realista at No. 3 doubles. The sophomore tandem of Michaela Cerrone and Gretchen Amberg posted an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles against Laurie Souksavath and Meredith Earley. At No. 1 doubles, Dana Postupack and Paulina Rys finished off Vanessa Pangikas and Krysten Chen, 8-5.
In singles play, Postupack won her fifth straight match with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Pangikas at No. 1 singles. Rys defeated Chen, 6-2, 6-3, at second singles while Ruiz defeated Souksavath, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
At No. 4 singles, Cerrone downed Earley, 6-1, 6-2, while senior Courtney Price earned the win over Bonner, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
At sixth singles, Amberg fought off match point several times to pull out the come-from-behind win against Realista, 4-6, 7-6(3), 10-4.
Next up for the Stags is the 2008 MAAC Championships held April 18-20 at the Billie Jean King USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
