
Paulina Rys Named MAAC Co-Player Of The Year As Women's Tennis Garners Numerous Awards

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's and women's tennis team garnered numerous postseason awards from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) as announced by the league office this afternoon. Head Coach Ed Paige was named the MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Coach of the Year for the second-straight season while junior Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) was named the Women's Co-Player of the Year.
In addition, Rys, freshman Kristen Liu (Closter, N.J.) and junior Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) earned All-MAAC First Team honors of their singles play while junior Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) was named to the All-MAAC second team. In addition, Fairfield swept the All-MAAC First Team doubles.
Paige guided both the men's and women's teams to highly successful seasons. The women's team (16-4) captured their eighth MAAC Championship and will face USC in the NCAA Tournament on May 9. The men's team went 18-2 on the season and 6-0 in MAAC play, earned a national ranking, captured the MAAC Regular Season Championship, and advanced to the finals of the MAAC Championship.
Rys, named the Most Outstanding Performer of the MAAC Championships, enters the NCAA Tournament as a winner of her last 16 matches at No. 2 singles. She is currently 24-8 overall which includes a 17-1 dual record and a 7-0 mark in the MAAC. In doubles, Rys is 23-9 overall and 14-2 in duals. She teamed with Liu to go 17-4 overall at first doubles. Rys also picked up her 100th combined career victory earlier this season and was named MAAC Player of the Week twice. She earned All-MAAC Second Team honors in doubles last season.
Liu had a stellar season at third doubles, going 13-4 in duals and 5-1 in the MAAC during the spring. She is 19-4 overall and enters the NCAA Tournament with a seven-match winning streak. In doubles, Liu is 23-9 overall.
Amberg, meanwhile, is undefeated this spring at No. 6 singles, forging a perfect 16-0 record to improve to 17-3 overall. In doubles, Amberg went 15-1 at third doubles with partner Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) during the spring to bring her overall record to 21-8.
Postupack had another solid season at No. 1 singles, notching a 19-16 overall record and a 12-7 mark in duals. In doubles, Postupack teamed with Marisa Voloshin (Woodbridge, Conn.) at the second spot to go 13-3 overall, including an 11-2 mark in duals and a perfect 7-0 MAAC record. She earned All-MAAC Second Team honors in doubles last season.
