Women's Tennis Readies For NCAA Tournament Match At USC

NCAA Tournament Notes

After winning the 2009 MAAC Women's Tennis Championship and an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament, Fairfield heads to Los Angeles, Calif. to play in the first round against seventh-seeded University of Southern California on May 9 at 12pm (PST) at Marks Stadium.  The University of Washington and San Diego State University will square off in the first match of the day.

A Look at #7 USC: The Trojans enter the NCAA Tournament with a 20-2 record, winning its last 12 matches, and are coming off their first-ever Pac-10 Team Championship. This is the 28th overall appearance in the NCAA Team Tournament for USC which advanced to the Round of 16 last season. In the Pac-10 Individual Championship, senior Amanda Fink captured her first Pac-10 Singles Championship and notched her second-straight Pac-10 Doubles Championships with teammate Gabriela Niculescu. There are five Trojans in the Campbell/ITA National rankings including: Fink (22), Maria Sanchez (23), Sarah Fansler (42), Alison Ramos (68), and Niculescu (89). In doubles, Fink and Niculescu are ranked fifth while Niculesu and Sanchez are 37. Fansler and Kintsler are 62nd and Ramos and Sanchez are 78th.

A Look at Washington: The Huskies, ranked 32nd by the ITA, enter the NCAA Tournament with a 16-7 record. Washington is making its second-straight NCAA appearance and its 11th in the last 13 years. Last season, the Huskies lost to Texas A&M in the first round. Washington will face San Diego State in the first round, a team that the Huskies swept on April 10.

A Look at San Diego State: The Aztecs, ranked 43rd by the ITA, are making their 21st NCAA appearance and first since 2007 after earning at-large berth. San Diego State finished with a 17-8 overall record and a 6-2 mark in the Mountain West. In 2007, the Aztecs fell to Florida State in the opening round.
