
Women's Tennis Blanks Fordham 7-0

STAMFORD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team opened its dual season with a 7-0 victory over Fordham University this evening at Stamford Indoor. The Stags won all nine matches on the night.
At first singles, senior Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) topped Bethany Boyle, 6-0, 6-1. At second singles, senior Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) defeated Martina Featherston, 6-2, 6-4. At third singles, Kristen Liu (Closter, N.J.) pulled out a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sarah Tremaine.
Rookie Meghan Sullivan (Tampa, Fla.) notched her first career dual win by defeating Taylor Holt, 4-6, 6-0, 10-3, at fourth singles. At fifth singles, junior Alyssa Ruiz (Glen Head, N.Y.) blanked Jennifer Mullen, 6-0, 6-0.
The Stags started the night by sweeping the doubles competition. At first doubles, Rys and Liu picked up an 8-4 win over Featherston and Tremaine. At second doubles, Postupack and sophomore Tara Brennan (Massapequa, N.Y.) outlasted Boyle and Holt, 8-6. At third doubles, seniors Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) and Michaela Cerrone (North Sciuate, R.I.) downed Mullen and Jane Carroll, 8-2.
The Stags are back in action on February 6 when they host Stony Brook at Stamford Indoor.
