
Women's Tennis Picked To Repeat As MAAC Champions

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team was picked to repeat as Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Champions in 2010 according to the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
The Stags received 63 points in the poll and were selected as the favorites for the second-straight year. Fairfield went 16-5 overall and 6-1 in the MAAC last season en route to a MAAC Championship crown and its second-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Fairfield, under the guidance of 2009 MAAC Coach of the Year Ed Paige, returns almost of that squad which includes Paulina Rys, the 2009 MAAC Co-Player of the Year and the MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Performer. The Stags also return All-MAAC selections Kristen Liu, Dana Postupack, Gretchen Amberg, and Michaela Cerrone.
Marist was picked second in the poll with 49 points while Niagara, last year's runner-up, received 46 points for third. Loyola was chosen fourth with 37 points followed by Manhattan (36), Siena (29), Saint Peter's (15), Rider (13).
Fairfield got its 2010 campaign started last weekend with a 7-0 victory over Fordham. The Stags are back in action on February 6 when they host Stony Brook at Stamford Indoor.
