TENAFLY, N.J. -- The Fairfield women's tennis team experienced its first loss of the spring season falling to the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) by a margin of 5-2 on Saturday night at the Tenafly Racquet Club. With the loss, the Stags fall to 2-1 on the year while NJIT improves to 6-3 on the season.
The Highlanders opened competition by winning the doubles point. At No. 1 doubles, the freshman duo of Dana Postupack and Paulina Rys fell to Iulia Doci and Fatima Kasem, 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, Isha Toor and Fanny Alzier edged senior Alexis Accomando and freshman Michaela Cerrone, 8-4. At third doubles, the sophomore tandem of Gabriela Davila and Lauren Bonanno also fell by a score of 8-4 to Marine Henry and Chiori Koike.
Bonanno and Postupack picked up the singles victories for the Stags. Bonanno defeated Henry, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles while Postupack edged Kasem, 7-5, 6-2, at No. 3 singles.
At No. 1 singles, Rys fell to Doci, 6-1, 6-2, while Cerrone was edged by Toor, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. At No. 5 singles, Alzier slipped by Davila, 7-5, 6-4. At No. 6 singles, Courtney Price fell to Koike, 6-1, 6-1.
Fairfield will play its final indoor match on March 4 when the Stags travel to Albany at 1p.m.
