ALBANY, N.Y. - Senior Alexis Accomando was the lone Stag on the court on Sunday afternoon with the match resting on her shoulders. Accomando did not disappoint as she pulled out a victory at fifth singles to lift Fairfield over Albany 4-3 at the UAlbany bubble.
Accomando earned the 2-0 victory against Kim Westcott to tip the decision in favor of the Stags.
The Stags (2-1) needed only one victory in the doubles competition to take the point as Albany (2-6) would forfeit at third doubles. Dana Postupack and Paulina Rys provided that victory edging out Aimee Kern and Westcott, 9-8(8-6).
After winning the doubles point, Fairfield took at 2-0 lead into singles play as Courtney Taylor won by default at No. 6 singles. Albany evened the match as Kern posted a 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 win against Rys at No. 1 singles while Kim Weltman picked up a 6-3, 6-0 win against Lauren Bonanno at the second spot.
At No. 3 singles, Postupack notched a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 win against Christina Suarez to put the Stags on top but Albany's Amanda Hall evened the match once again with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 win against Gabriela Davila. Accomando then sealed the match for Fairfield at No. 5 singles.
Fairfield will head to Florida for its Spring Break trip which starts with a match against Carthage College on March 11.
