The women's tennis team shutout Saint Peter's, 7-0, on March 25 to win their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) opener.
At No. 1 singles, Paulina Rys edged Vanessa Pangikas 4-6,7-5,10-7. At No. 2 singles, Lauren Bonanno downed Angela Wiggs 6-0,6-4. At No. 3 singles, Alexis Accomando pulled out the victory against Kristy Bonner, 7-6(3), 6-7(4), 11-9.
At No. 5 singles, Gabriela Davila beat out Meredith Earlet, 6-3,6-4, while Courtney Price won in straight sets over Jing Cheung, 6-0,6-0. Courtney Taylor won by walkover at No. 6 singles.
Rys and Davila teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Pangikas-Wiggs, 8-5, while Bonner-Earlet edged Accomando and Bonanno, 8-4. Fairfield won the doubles point at the Peahens forfeited the third spot.
Fairfield returns to the courts on March 29 at UConn.
