FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Niagara University women's tennis team remained undefeated in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) by edging Fairfield University, 5-2, this afternoon at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The Stags fall to 7-6 overall and 1-1 in conference play while the Purple Eagles improve to 6-7 overall and 4-0 in the MAAC.

Freshman Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) was a double-winner for the Stags. Rys picked up the 6-4, 6-1 victory over Vanja Lakic at No. 1 singles and also notched an 8-4 doubles win with teammate Gabriela Davila (Guaybano, Puerto Rico) at the top spot.

In addition to the Rys and Davila victory at No. 1 doubles, the Stags sealed the doubles point at No. 2 doubles as senior Alexis Accomando (Lilitz, Pa.) and sophomore Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) defeated Lakic and Shella Dargout, 8-5.

Niagara was able to come back in the singles round, taking five out of six matches. At No. 2 singles, Bonanno fell to Jennifer Cremieux, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Accomando fell to Julianne Prokopich, 7-6(5), 6-1.

At No. 4 singles, Davila was edged by Molly Matthews, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. At No. 5 singles, Dargout defeated junior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.), 6-2, 6-3. At No. 6 singles, freshman Courtney Taylor (Bay Shore, N.Y.) was shutout by Jacquelyn Cary, 6-0, 6-0.

Fairfield will host Siena on Senior Day, tomorrow, April 1, at the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
