FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Alexis Accomando earned a win at singles and at doubles, but it was not enough for the women's tennis to overcome Providence College as the Friars posted a 4-3 win on the Fairfield University courts.
Accomando won two of three sets at No. 2, defeating Meghan Gilroy by 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 scores. She teamed up with Dana Postupack in doubles for an 8-3 victory. The Stags won two of the three doubles matches, with Lauren Bonanno and Michaela Cerrone posting an 8-5 victory over Ashley Rissolo and Gilroy. The Friars took No. 3 doubles behind the efforts of Kerry Schulz and Jen Cusack, as the pair beat Gabriela Davila and Gretchen Amberg.
Davila was the only other singles winner for the Stags, registering a straight-set decision over Schulz (7-6, 6-3). Providence swept the bottom half of the singles bracket with Allison Cohen defeating Amberg (6-2, 6-2) at No. 4, Kate Lyons knocking off Courtney Price (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5, and Cusack pushing past Courtney Taylor at No. 6 (6-1, 6-4).
The Stags fell to 7-9 overall following the result, while Providence improved to 7-8 overall. Fairfield returns to action on April 10 when it hosts Marist College in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) match up.
