LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team snapped its six match losing skid this evening with an exciting 6-1 victory at Rider. With the win, Fairfield improves to 8-10 overall and 2-4 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) while the Broncs fall to 6-10 on the year and 1-5 in the conference.
At No. 2 singles, freshman Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) returned to the lineup to defeat Devin Crawbuck, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1, for her 12th victory of the season.
Senior Alexis Accomando (Lilitz, Pa.) and sophomore Gabriela Davila (Guaybano, Puerto Rico) each posted their 14th victories of the season to tie freshman Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) for the team lead. Accomando earned the 6-3, 6-3 win against Danielle Morse at No. 3 singles while Davila beat out Kristina Paich, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.
Junior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) defeated Kelly-Ann Chouinard, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5 singles while Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) posted and impressive 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 victory against Danielle Cheong at No. 6 singles.
Rider's lone point came at No. 1 singles as Rys fell to Caitlin Crawbuck, 6-4, 6-3.
In doubles competition, Rys and Postupack defeated the Crawbuck sisters, 8-6, at the top spot. At No. 3 doubles, Davila and Price defeated Chouinard and Cheong, 8-2. Rider's Paich and Morse won at No. 2 doubles defeated Accomando and Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.), 8-5.
Fairfield closes outs conference play tomorrow, April 14 at Loyola.
