Results

BALTIMORE, Md. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team closed out Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) regular season action with a 6-1 loss at Loyola this morning. The Stags fall to 8-11 overall and 2-5 in the MAAC while the Greyhounds improve to 10-4 on the season.

Freshman Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) was a double winner for the Stags. She picked up the lone singles victory at the top spot with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Caitlyn Day. Rys also teamed up with classmate Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) at No.1 doubles to defeat Day and Stephanie Dunn, 8-3.

At No. 2 singles, Postupack fell to Kerri Swan, 6-4, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, senior Alexis Accomando (Lilitz, Pa.) was edged by Dunn, 6-4, 7-6(2). At No. 4 singles, sophomore Gabriela Davila (Guaybano, Puerto Rico) fell to Lauren Cassle, 7-5, 6-2. At No. 5 singles, Meaghan McKenna defeated junior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.), 6-1, 6-0. At No. 6 singles, freshman Gretchen Amberg (Manasquan, N.J.) fell to Mallory Tarca, 6-4, 6-2.

At No. 2 doubles, Accomando and Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) fell to Swan and Cassle, 8-4. At No. 3 doubles, Davila and Price lost to McKenna and Tarca, 8-3.

Fairfield will close the regular season on Monday, April 16 at Villanova. The 2007 MAAC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships begins on April 20 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
