FLUSHING, N.Y. -- The Fairfield University women's tennis team picked up an impressive 7-0 victory against Rider University in the consolation round of the of the 2007 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The sixth-seeded Stags took all three doubles matches from the Broncs. At the top spot, the freshman tandem of Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) and Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) defeated Caitlin Crawbuck and Devin Crawbuck, 8-1. At No. 2 doubles, senior Alexis Accomando (Lilitz, Pa.) and Michaela Cerrone (N. Scituate, R.I.) downed Danielle Morse and Krissy Paich, 8-2. At No. 3 doubles, Lauren Bonanno (Bradenton, Fla.) and sophomore Gabriela Davila (Guaybano, Puerto Rico) shut down Kelly-Ann Chouinard and Danielle Chong, 8-1.
At No. 1 singles, Rys defeated Caitlin Crawbuck, 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 while Bonanno edged Devin Crawbuck, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, Postupack downed Morse, 6-1, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles, Accomando earned the 6-3, 6-2 victory against Paich while Davila downed Chouinard, 6-3, 6-1 at the fifth spot. At No. 6 singles, junior Courtney Price (Meriden, Conn.) defeated blanked Cheong, 6-0, 6-0.
Fairfield will face Manhattan in the fifth place match tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
