KINGSTON, R.I. - The Fairfield women's tennis team put together another solid fall season performance as the Stags tallied 17 victories at the University of Rhode Island Shootout this weekend.

Fairfield went head-to-head with rival Sacred Heart in the Round 2 singles competition, taking six of eight matches from the Pioneers. After dropping the first singles match, Paulina Rys (Forest Hills, N.Y.) downed Julianne Kasinow, 8-1 at second singles while Dana Postupack (Kingston, N.Y.) cruised past Nicole Betz at third singles. The matches were a bit closer at the fourth and fifth spots as both Gabriela Davila and Alexis Accomando each earned respective 8-5 victories over Jessica Schnell and Mandy Finklestein. Junior Courtney Price posted an 8-4 win against Ashley Amalfe while Courtney Taylor squeaked by Brittany Price, 8-6.

In Round 5 of singles play, the Stags squared off against Providence winning seven out of eight matches. Rys recorded an 8-2 win against Meghan Gilroy at second singles while Postupack posted an 8-3 victory over Kerri Shultz at third singles. Davila earned her second victory of the day at fourth singles with an 8-4 win against Dara Hawkins-Hodgson while Accomando downed Jen Cusack, 8-1. At sixth singles, Price edged out Amy McDevitt, 7-6, while Taylor clipped Theresa Griffin, 6-4. Freshman Gretchen Amberg rounded out the group with a 6-0 victory at the eighth spot.

In doubles action, after being swept by URI in the first round, Fairfield bounced back to sweep Providence in Round 3 in four tight matches. At first doubles, Marisa Voloshin and Rys teamed up to defeat Shultz and Gilroy, 8-5. At second doubles, Michaela Cerrone partnered with Postupack to pull out the 8-5 win against Ashley Rissolo and Hawkins-Hodgson, 8-5. Also earning an 8-5 win were Accomando and Davila, who defeated Cusack and McDevitt at third doubles. At fourth doubles, the team of Amberg and Taylor upended Griffin and Darby, 8-6.

Fairfield returns to the courts Oct. 14-15 when it hosts the New England Championships.
