EDISON, N.J. - The Fairfield University men's and women's tennis teams led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a combined nine selections to the 2006 Men's and Women's All-Academic Teams. The men's team had four players selected to the team, while the women had five.

A total of 50 student-athletes from the eight schools' that sponsor men's and women's tennis comprised the team.

The women's team, who earned an ITA All-Academic Team Award last season, had five players selected to this years MAAC team. Two of those players are making their second appearance on the team, seniors Christina Chacharone and Megan Stauffer. Senior Tiffany Marsocci, senior Lindsay Pease, and sophomore Cristin Zaccareo rounded out Fairfield's selections.

Following the Stags nine selections, Marist had eight, and Manhattan had seven. Rider and Siena each had six, followed by Loyola and Niagara with five. Saint Peter's rounded out the team with four.

Junior Zachary Morrison is making his second appearance on the team for the Fairfield men's squad. Senior Michael Cuozzo, junior Jonathan Fernando, and sophomore Balazs Szikla were the other Fairfield representatives.

To be eligible for the MAAC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must complete two semesters at their institution and hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.0 scale.

Both the men's and women's teams finished tied for third in the recently completed MAAC Tennis Championships. The women's team upset Loyola, 6-1 in the first-round and fell to Marist in the semifinals. The men's team defeated Rider, 7-0 in the first-round and also fell to Marist in the semifinals 4-0.
