SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -  Fairfield University fell to Stony Brook University, 3-0 (23-30, 24-30, 23-30) this evening in volleyball action at the Seton Hall Tournament. Senior Kelly Oliver (San Diego, Calif./La Jolla) led the Stags (1-8) with her sixth double-digit kill effort of the season.

Oliver finished the night with 10 kills, five digs, and two block assists.

Senior Lindsey Lee (Hilo, Hawaii, St. Joseph) posted five kills and 13 digs for the Stags. With tonight's totals, Lee moves within two kills of surpassing Laura Gleason for third on Fairfield's career list and is 18 digs shy of eclipsing Corrine Carlson for third all-time.

Senior Jazmin Pa'akaula (Hilo, Hawaii, St. Joseph) chipped in with nine kills, four digs, and two block assists. With her kills, Pa'akaula brought her career total to 995 and is five away from becoming the sixth Stag to notch 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs.

The Stags and the Seawolves (4-5) battled in the opening stanza with six ties and five lead changes in the early going. But with the score knotted at 12-12, Stony Brook used an 8-3 run to pull away from the Stags and never looked back.

In the second frame, Fairfield trailed early but was able to tie the score 10-10 on an attack error by the Seawolves. Stony Brook shifted the momentum with a 5-0 run to open up a 15-10 lead. The Stags later cut the gap to 22-20 on a kill by Oliver, but the Seawolves hung on for the win.

Stony Brook led almost the entire way in the final game. Fairfield overcame early five-point deficit to pull within16-15 on a Seawolves attack error. Stony Brook was able to fend off the Stags, outscoring them 14-8 the rest of the way.

Sophomore Katie Mann (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) added seven kills and two block assists for Fairfield while classmate Barbie Thistle (Bakersfield, Calif./Bakersfield) registered 23 assists and eight digs. Junior Brandi Higa (Honolulu, Hawaii/Hawaii Baptist Academy) had 16 digs on the night.

For the Seawolves, Jackie Ahlers, who transferred from St. John's University, notched a match-high 15 kills. Morgan Sweany recorded a double-double with 16 digs and 13 kills along with six of Stony Brook's eight service aces.

Stony Brook hit .263 on the night while Fairfield hit just .128. The Seawolves held a slight 7-6 advantage in blocks as well.

Fairfield continues action at the Seton Hall Tournament tomorrow, September 8, with a match against the University of Pennsylvania at noon followed by a meeting with the host Pirates at 6:30 p.m.
